How to Install Oracle 11g R2 database software:
This tutorial is to show how to install the Oracle 11g R2 database software only. At the end of the installation you will have Oracle database software installed in your machine.
Note: This tutorial will not create a default Oracle database. This will be done in another tutorial.

This document is intended to take you step by step through the installation of Oracle
Database 11g R2. The installation preocess is designed only to install the database
software and not create a database. The database will be created with another document and
will take you though pictorial guide.This guide is part of the series titled

Install Oracle Enterprise Linux
Prepare Linux for Oracle 11gR2 installation.

Install Oracle 11gR2 database software

Pre-Requisites:
Before running through this tutorial make sure you have complete the following tasks:
1. Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.3 installed
2. Linux box prepared for Database installation. See here for details instructions
3. Java SDK 6 update 8 installed

1 | Login as oracle user |
2 | Copy p10098816_112020_Linux-x86-64_1of7.zip p10098816_112020_Linux-x86-64_2of7.zip to /u01/app/oracle |
3 | Runcd /u01/app/oracle unzip p10098816_112020_Linux-x86-64_1of7.zip unzip p10098816_112020_Linux-x86-64_2of7.zip |
4 | Open X-Windows session to the server as oracle user |
5 | run#cd /u01/app/oracle/database |
6 | From X-Windows session run the installater as./runInstaller |
The installation will now start. One the screen name on the left column select the option as shown/instructed on the right hand side column | |
Screen Name | Action |
Configure Security Updates | Enter an email address. Untick the check Box. Then Click Next |
Configure Security Updates | On this screen Check the Check Box then Click Continue |
Installation Option | Select “Install Database Software Only” Click Next |
Grid Options | Select “Single Instance Database Installation” Click Next |
Product Languages | Accept the default (if you are installing English version) Click Next |
Database Edition | Select “Enterprise Edition” Click Next |
Installation Location | Accept the default Click Next |
Oracle Inventory | For Inventory directory enter /u01/app/oracle/oraInventory Click Next |
Oracle Inventory | If you get this screen click Yes |
Operating System Groups | Accept the default. Click Next |
Prerequisite Checks | The installer will do a prerequisites check now. Then you should get the following screen. |
Summary | Click Finish on this screen |
Install Product | The installation process will now start. Close to the end of the installation you will get the screen below |
Install Product | Run orainstRoot.sh amd root.sh as directed. After running them click OK |
Finish | Click Close. The installation is now complete. |
Test | Now logon to the server as oracle user.Then type the command sqlplus / as sysdba The output should be liek this: SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.1.0 Production on Thu Jun 16 14:57:15 2011 Copyright (c) 1982, 2009, Oracle. All rights reserved. Connected to an idle instance. This means your oracle software is now installed. Now logout from oracle SQL> exit |
